Interested in 3D printing? Well come on in!
I purchased my very first 3D printer over a year ago during an impulsive shopping spree on Amazon. The Creality Ender 3 V1 was under $200, and I couldn’t resist adding it to my cart! I don’t have an engineering background, but the idea of designing anything I could imagine and bringing it into reality was too tempting to pass up. I’d call myself an “impulsive dream chaser”—if it feels right, I’m all in!
When the printer arrived, I realized I was in over my head. It needed full assembly, and I didn’t even know where to start. After finding a helpful step-by-step YouTube video (and passing the torch to my husband halfway through!), we managed to set it up. A few hours later, we had a functioning 3D printer!
Our first print, a little good-luck kitty, came out perfectly! That one successful print ignited a love for 3D animation, CAD modeling, and blending science with art. Fast forward to 2024, and I now have a total of three printers! I still have that Ender 3, along with a Creality K1 Max and my latest baby, the Bambu Lab P1S with AMS. This journey has come with plenty of challenges, but with patience and curiosity, it’s absolutely possible to learn—and love—the world of 3D printing!
That’s why I started this blog. At That’s So Glassy, our goal is to motivate and bring the joy of innovation to families and anyone who loves to create. I’m linking a beginner’s guide from All3DP that helped me get comfortable with 3D printing basics, along with tips from Ultimaker on common troubleshooting and project ideas. These resources are amazing for building confidence and getting started.
Our next mission is to introduce our children to this creative world, hoping that one day they’ll take innovation even further and maybe even change the world. Ready to create anything you can imagine? Let’s get started!
