Setting Aside Worry

Happy Sunday!

I hope everyone has had a relaxing weekend before preparing to start a whole new week! I’m feeling a bit anxious because our two oldest children are getting ready to start school again. They only have a week and a half left of summer; it really flew by! There is so much to prepare for, and I haven’t had time to get everything done. It’s starting to make me panic a little. Thank goodness for my wonderful husband because he is my calm before the storm.

You want to know what he reminded me to do? Read the Bible and continue my personal journey because it will help ease my mind. So, I did exactly that, and when I tell you that God is so good! It is so easy to get wrapped up in the day-to-day activities of life, to the point where you get lost in your own madness and forget about the things that help keep you grounded.

For example, making sure I take the time to thank the Lord for waking me up every morning and allowing me to watch my children grow up. Life is way too short to be focused on all the minute details that are not even significant to the bigger picture God created for your life. So, I wanted to share what really stood out to me and calmed my spirit during my studies today.

I am completing a ‘30 Days with Jesus’ challenge that was in the back of my Bible. Today, I was reading the sermon that Jesus preached on the Mount. Here are the verses that really stood out to me when I needed them most:

“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
— Matthew 6: 31-34 NKJV

This reading was completely unexpected and exactly what I needed in my spirit. I become frazzled and frustrated easily when I think about all the things my family needs, but we are unable to obtain due to time, finances, etc. A big part of that is my worry about my family’s future. I will worry myself into inactivity sometimes because I am unable to slow my brain down for a minute.

I am so blessed to be surrounded by people who are God-fearing and constantly remind me that I cannot control everything. I NEED to pray, read the Bible, continue to build my relationship with God, and leave everything in His hands. This brings me back to say: God is so great.

Thank you for reading, and I hope you have taken the time this week to not only focus on yourself but also replenish and refill your spirit through God.

Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
— Matthew 7: 13-14
